India Build Strong Position Against Sri Lanka as Galle Test Reaches Crucial Stage
India have strengthened their position in the opening Test against Sri Lanka after extending their overall lead to 294 runs on day four in Galle.
India reached 116 for four at lunch in their second innings after previously dismissing Sri Lanka for 284. That gave India a first-innings advantage of 178 runs.
Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando made an early impact by dismissing India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for a three-ball duck, but India continued to build their advantage despite the setback.
The growing lead has put India in a commanding position as the Test enters its decisive stages. Sri Lanka now face the difficult task of restricting India’s final total before attempting to chase what could become a substantial fourth-innings target.
The result could depend heavily on how India manage their remaining wickets and whether Sri Lanka’s bowlers can produce a late turnaround.
